Tailor Workshop
in the SKILLS FACTORY on Samos
In the SKILLS FACTORY, we bring together skilled tailors from all over the world to produce the items that are most urgently needed.
by hand. locally. sustainably. independently. honestly.
Background:
New arrivals on Samos typically possess only the most essential belongings, and many even lose their bags during the dangerous journey to safety, arriving with virtually nothing. Despite the considerable volume of clothing donations received annually on Samos, the reality demonstrates that certain items rarely align with the specific needs of the island. Some items are consistently in short supply, while donations may not be suitable or sufficient — such as in the case of men's clothing, religious items, and underwear.
Our work in the tailor workshop includes:
Planning, Design, and Manufacturing: Creating clothing for children, women, and men in the refugee camp.
Mass Production for Partner Organization: Producing needed items in large quantities for the free clothing shop of our partner organization.
Repairs and Adjustments: Addressing defects and making adjustments to clothing.
Training Programs: Offering training at three different levels, covering sewing introduction, tailor confidence, fashion design, and department management.
Recycling Initiatives: Recycling fabric scraps and defective clothing donations, contributing to sustainability efforts.
Screen Printing: Elevating our production with unique and empowering prints to create dignified and personalised clothing.
OUR IMPACT
Providing people in need in the camp with appropriate clothing.
Repairing and adjusting clothing donations.
Alleviating the burden of imports and waste.
Fostering independence, creativity, and teamwork.
Preparing individuals for the European job market.
Promoting appreciation for the tailoring profession.
Department Sponsoring
In order to further equip and sustain the Sewing Workshop, we rely on the support of sponsors.
It is particularly important to us to purchase consumables directly on the island from our local partners, thereby supporting small, family-owned businesses.
Since not everything is available on the island, donations of fabrics and sewing supplies are always appreciated.
