Maintenance Volunteer

In the SKILLS FACTORY on Samos, craftspeople from around the world come together to share expertise, learn from one another, and create what they need. To keep our premises and departments fully functional, regular maintenance, repairs, and upgrades are essential. We also engage community volunteers with professional backgrounds in construction, leveraging their skills to enhance our operations.

Overview:

As a Maintenance Volunteer, you will oversee the upkeep of our facilities and departments, recruit and lead a team of skilled community volunteers, and manage construction projects as needed.

As maintenance volunteer you will be responsible for:

Maintenance-Management:

  • Recruit, empower, and support a maintenance team of community volunteers.
  • Ensure the repair and maintenance of premises and individual departments.
  • Implement construction projects when required.
  • Organize materials, manage stock, inventory and budget.
  • Utilize the skills and knowledge of community volunteers.
  • Ensure that safety measures are consistently practiced.
  • Demonstrate passion for developing and implementing certification cycles.

 

General Tasks:

  • Driving: Conduct shopping trips for necessary supplies or transport volunteers for registrations and other errands.
  • Gardening: Maintain cleanliness and organization of outdoor areas, water, prune, and plant as needed.
  • Participate in daily team meetings, relevant discussions and weekly selfcare-meeting.
  • Provide administrative support if necessary
  • Offer assistance across various departments
  • Contribute ideas for improvement and innovation

Requirements:

  • Vocational training or relevant professional experience in construction, carpentry, painting, electricity, metalwork, or other relevant fields.
  • Highly motivated, organized, creative, with a problem-solving mindset and a strong team spirit. Open to learning with and from colleagues worldwide.
  • Mentally stable, capable of handling challenging situations, and able to maintain healthy boundaries. Prepared to work in a constantly changing crisis situation on Samos (minimum age 23).
  • Willingness to live in shared accommodation, with respect for diverse characters and flexibility in daily living.
  • Valid driver’s license and comfort with driving.
  • Alignment with our values, philosophy, and vision. Open-minded with cultural sensitivity.
  • Minimum commitment of 2 months, preferably longer.
