Media-Department

in the SKILLS FACTORY on Samos

The primary goal of the media department is to spotlight and promote the skills and potential of individuals displaced in Samos, Greece, and Europe at large, utilizing a multi-media approach.

Background: While traditionally, in the humanitarian context, advocacy has centered on exposing human rights violations, highlighting the traumatic journeys of asylum seekers, and underscoring the dire living conditions in camps, the capacities, potentials, and resources of the individuals involved often go overlooked. Without diminishing the importance of addressing the legal and political framework within which we operate, we must also acknowledge that despite countless efforts, the situation at Europe's borders has not improved; in fact, it has worsened. This is why we are taking the risk to try something new. Our approach is to shift the focus towards recognizing and harnessing the skills and potentials of the people we work with. Rather than instilling fear, we aim for Europe to acknowledge their value. We aspire to contribute to a world where every person can unfold their potential.

Our work in the Media department includes:

  • Strategic planning: Planning of media content to effectively convey our message. Utilizing a multi-media approach to promote content across various platforms.
  • Content creation: Collecting content aligned with specific focus topics. Documenting everyday life and products within the SKILLS FACTORY. Creating portfolios and promotional videos. Providing images for social media and marketing purposes.
  • Workshops and external jobs: Conducting workshops on social media basics for professionals. Organizing exhibitions and events. Processing customer orders for partner NGOs.

Department Sponsoring

In order to further expand our film and photography department and keep it alive, we depend on the support of sponsors.

It is particularly important to us, whenever possible, to buy the consumables directly on the island from our local partners and thus support small, family businesses.

For professional equipment, on the other hand, we depend on donations in kind from partner organizations to whom the future of trade and society is just as important as it is to us.
