Volunteer Tailor-Workshop
Overview:
In the Tailor Workshop at the SKILLS FACTORY on Samos, professionals from around the world collaborate to repair and adjust clothing, create new designs, and develop innovative solutions for upcycling and reusing fabric. The workshop produces textile goods and clothing to support people in need on the island.
As a volunteer, you will work alongside the department coordinator and a team of 5-10 community volunteers to repair and produce clothing, while also overseeing the 3-level certification training program within the SKILLS FACTORY framework.
As department facilitator you will be responsible for:
- Assisting the coordinator in overseeing the workshop and managing the team.
- Introducing new members to the department and teaching them how to use the machines.
- Collaborating with the team to assess clothing needs, design prototypes, and plan production.
- Organizing production, delegating tasks, and ensuring a productive yet supportive environment.
- Managing external jobs, ensuring timely delivery within scope and budget.
- Overseeing the 3-level certification training program, tracking progress, and assisting with certification.
- Organizing textile-printing sessions (screen-printing) for labeling and scaling finished products.
- Managing stock, inventory, and purchasing necessary materials and spare parts.
- Leading weekly department meetings to discuss feedback, current projects, and future plans.
- Implementing organizational structures and daily routines for the workshop.
General Tasks:
- Driving: Conduct shopping trips for necessary supplies or transport volunteers for registrations and other errands.
- Participate in daily team meetings, relevant discussions and weekly selfcare-meeting.
- Provide administrative support if necessary
- Offer assistance across various departments
- Contribute ideas for improvement and innovation
