Volunteer Kitchen-Workshop

Overview:

At the SKILLS FACTORY kitchen in Samos, professionals from around the world collaborate to create healthy, nutritious meals using local ingredients, while also cultivating and harvesting fruits, vegetables, and herbs. The team is dedicated to reducing food waste through innovative solutions and providing training in cooking and food processing skills.

As a kitchen volunteer, you will work alongside the kitchen coordinator and community volunteers to manage daily operations, plan menus, prepare meals, and oversee the training and development of the team.

As department facilitator you will be responsible for:

  • Overseeing the kitchen and the garden departments and the team of 5-10 community volunteer alongside the kitchen coordinator.
  • Support in planning and preparing daily meals for 30-40 people and for special events.
  • Organizing food processing, meal distribution, and ensuring hygiene and food safety.
  • Managing inventory, purchasing ingredients, and maintaining the department’s budget.
  • Organizing planting and harvest days for the garden.
  • Recruiting and onboarding new team members.
  • Tracking expenses and performing basic bookkeeping.
  • Leading weekly team meetings for feedback, planning, and vision discussions.
  • Overseeing the 3-level certification program (beginner, intermediate, and leadership levels).
  • Encouraging the team to work independently and supporting them with challenges.
  • Maintaining tools, machines and raw materials, ensuring everything is aligned with the department’s budget.
  • Collaborating with the media department to promote the kitchen’s initiatives, events, and achievements.

General Tasks:

  • Driving: Conduct shopping trips for necessary supplies or transport volunteers for registrations and other errands.
  • Participate in daily team meetings, relevant discussions and weekly selfcare-meeting.
  • Provide administrative support if necessary
  • Offer assistance across various departments
  • Contribute ideas for improvement and innovation

Requirements:

  • Professional education and or relevant professional experience as a chef.
  • Highly motivated, organized, creative, with a problem-solving mindset and a strong team spirit. Open to learning with and from colleagues worldwide.
  • Mentally resilient, capable of handling confronting situations and maintaining healthy boundaries (minimum age 23).
  • Valid driver’s license and comfort with driving is a plus.
  • Alignment with our values, philosophy, and vision. Open-minded with cultural sensitivity.
  • Minimum commitment of 2 months, preferably longer.
