Volunteer Barber-Workshop

Overview:

The Barber Department at SKILLS FACTORY in Samos provides a dignified grooming and care service to the camp community, locals, and other organizations. It is a collaborative space where skilled professionals and eager learners work together, sharing knowledge and training, while providing essential care that promotes self-confidence and independence.

As a Volunteer in the Barber-workshop, you will play a key role in developing the department, empowering a team of barbers, supporting training efforts, managing the daily operations, and helping grow this critical service.

As Barber-Volunteer you will be responsible for:

  • Recruit, introduce, mentor and support a team of barbers from the community, including professionals and learners, ensuring their skills are used effectively.
  • Oversee the daily operations of the Barber Department, including overseeing 12-25 client appointments per day.
  • Foster an environment of knowledge exchange by sharing your passion and expertise with volunteers and colleagues from around the world.
  • Assign tasks to keep the team productive while allowing room for personal growth.
  • Leverage the skills and strengths of community volunteers to enhance the workshop.
  • Assist in implementing and overviewing a three-tier training program (beginner, advanced, and leadership/teacher levels) within SKILLS FACTORY’s certification framework.
  • Organize regular department meetings to gather feedback from the community and plan future projects.
  • Organize special events, external jobs and projects to engage the community or improve services.
  • Maintain inventory, ensuring all materials and equipment are properly cleaned, stocked, organized, and maintained.
  • Assist with administrative tasks to ensure the smooth flow of daily activities, support with the weekly and monthly department report and ensure photographic documentation.

 

General Tasks:

  • Driving: Conduct shopping trips for necessary supplies or transport volunteers for registrations and other errands.
  • Participate in daily team meetings, relevant discussions and weekly selfcare-meeting.
  • Provide administrative support if necessary
  • Offer assistance across various departments
  • Contribute ideas for improvement and innovation

Requirements:

  • Vocational training and / or relevant professional experience as a barber (both outside and within Europe).
  • Highly motivated, organized, creative, with a problem-solving mindset and a strong team spirit. Open to learning with and from colleagues worldwide.
  • Team-oriented mindset, emphasizing individual skills and needs.
  • Proactive and confident in English (preferably in French or Arabic).
  • Mentally stable, capable of handling challenging situations, and able to maintain healthy boundaries. Prepared to work in a constantly changing crisis situation on Samos (minimum age 23).
  • Valid driver’s license and comfort with driving is a plus.
  • Alignment with our values, philosophy, and vision. Open-minded with cultural sensitivity.
  • Minimum commitment of 2 months, preferably longer.
